Pikey Peak Trek is a short and easy trek in the lower Everest Region, providing stunning vistas of the eastern side of the Himalayas. Named after a Sherpa deity from the local region, Pikey represents the sky and nature. During monsoon seasons in June and July, the Sherpas come together to worship their sect god in Buddhist rituals performed by lamas and monks. Along the trek route, one can witness the rich culture of the Sherpas, besides the culture of the Tamang, Rai, and Chhetri people. Stupas, prayer wheels, and prayer flags are all in abundance in this trek route, making this trek spiritually enriching.
Highlights of the Trek to Pikey Peak:
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning, and we will start the day with a long drive from Kathmandu to Jhapre. The road follows the Sun Koshi River, which later merges with the Tama Koshi River to form the Koshi River, continuing all the way to Ghurmi. You will drive through several settlements and bustling bazaars en route until reaching Jhapre at 2,920 meters. You can see a small gompa and stupa nearby after arriving here. Jhapre will be your final stop for the night.

Enjoy the sunrise view at Jhapre, when the first golden rays fall on the snow-capped mountains. Following the trek further along the trail, you reach Bhulbule. The path is quite steep upwards through rhododendron forests and the small settlement area of Lhamuje. After crossing Lhamuje, the trail opens up into yak-grazing pastures with a long Mani wall. Continuing with a climb along the winding route brings you to Pikey Base Camp. You can visit the Yak Cheese Factory and enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding Himalayas.

In the early morning, trek to Pikey Peak to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas, featuring Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Numbur Chuli (6,958 m), Thamserku (6,608 m), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Makalu (8,485 m), Ghaurisankar (7,134 m), and numerous others in the surrounding range. After the breathtaking sunrise view, come back to the Pikey Peak Base Camp. Then proceed with the descent towards the Everest Base Camp trek that converges from the trekking point – Jiri to Taktor. After covering a few more hours, you arrive at the Junbesi village, which is a Sherpa village famous for its Buddhist monasteries, unique Sherpa culture, and architecture.

Junbesi is a breathtakingly beautiful village located at a point where the Everest trail and another to Thuptenchholing Monastery meet. The breathtaking sight of Numbur Mountain sets a perfect backdrop to create a peaceful ambience of a place to unwind and relax. The Thuptenchholing Monastery has been a major deciding factor for Junbesi Village to be regarded as a foremost important place of the Sherpas residing in this area. Despite its remoteness and large population density, about 800 monks and nuns reside within its limits.

You will drive back to Kathmandu from Junbesi. Along this route, you can witness prayer flags, prayer wheels, and stone walls inscribed with mantras. While traveling, you can witness the mesmerizing sights of hills and slopes of tea plantations. The route passes along the beautiful Madhya Pahadi Highway.
