Mera Peak is located within the Mahalangur mountain range under the Barun subsection of the Himalayan mountain range. It is located within Nepal, under the administrative district of the Koshi Province, specifically in the Solukhumbu District. The towering mountain, which stands at 6,476 meters, is identified as the highest trekking peak within the country of Nepal. The best recommended climbing periods for the Mera Peak are spring and autumn, during which the climate is best and the Himalayan scenery is breathtaking. At the summit of the mountain, tourists can view five of the 8,000-meter peaks, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.
Once you are on the summit of Mera Peak, which is considered to be the highest trekking peak in Nepal, you are going to be treated to some breathtaking vistas of excellent natural beauty. From such an incredible location, one can experience a direct view of the face of Everest. Apart from that, one gets a glimpse of the watershed area along with the rugged mountains and forested valleys of Hinku and Hongu Drangkas. The trek to Mera Peak gives one a unique chance to explore a relatively unknown and untouched area of Nepal.
Climbing Mera Peak is an ideal choice for those with moderate mountaineering experience. Although the mountain requires considerable physical effort due to its altitude, the technical expertise required is straightforward. Before ascending the mountain, comprehensive mountain climbing training is provided by our experienced Sherpa guides.
Highlights of the Mera Peak Climbing:
On our first day, we take the early morning flight to Lukla and then begin our trek to Paiya Village after our landing at Lukla Airport. Enjoy the scenic flight to Lukla with the magnificent views of the Himalayan Ranges. Upon our arrival at Lukla Airport, our luggage will be unloaded, and after a short rest, our trek begins to Paiya Village.
The trail will lead us through jungle paths, over a bridge crossing the Handi Khola, and finally to Surke Village. Moving further towards the southern direction, we will have to cross the Chutok La Pass before reaching Paiya Village, also known as Chutok.
Includes: Private Transport, Domestic airfare, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge.
We start our trail with a gentle descent that leads us to a small bridge. From here, the trail is slippery until we reach the Kari La Pass and requires extra attention. We follow the narrow mountain path through thick rhododendron and bamboo forests. A little later, we stop briefly for magnificent views of Dudh Koshi Valley and further proceed with our trek towards Panggom Village.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge.
Continuing our journey, we leave Panggom and make our way toward Ningsow. Crossing the Panggom La Pass after some time on the trail, we begin our ascent on a steady path. We then cross Peseng Kharka Khola and turn north to reach Peseng Kharka Danda. From there, it’s downhill to the stream of Ningsow Khola, a crossing of the river itself, before finally reaching Ningsow Village.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge.
Leaving Ningsow behind, we ascend and descend for some time to reach Ramailo Danda. From here, the views are spectacular, and one gets an extraordinary view of Mera Peak and Salpa. From here, after some time, we will be able to enter Makalu Barun National Park and follow the Pasang Lhamu trail, which takes us to Chhatra Khola. If one is lucky, one might catch a glimpse of the Red Panda.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge.
Today, we continue along the main route to Mera Peak. As we proceed northwards, we continue along the trail route and meet another route which parallels the route along the Hinku Khola. After a while, we arrive at Tashing Ongma, where we can take a break at the tea stalls. We then cross a bridge at Sanu Khola before arriving at Kothe.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge.
Continuing along the ridge of Hinku Khola in the shadow of Mera Peak, we arrive at Gondishung. From Gondishung, we leave the area and move around the 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gumba. At Gumba, an observation of the rocks inscribed with the writing shows a drawing of Mera Peak with the route of climbing the mountain. We then proceed for a while before reaching Thaknak, a summer grazing area with primitive lodges and small shops.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge.
Today, we ascend gradually as we rise to higher altitudes. We leave Thaknak and continue on the route, which reaches a lateral moraine of the Dig Glacier, finally arriving at Dig Kharka with beautiful views of Charpate Himal. The route then goes up through the moraines of both the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers, then steeply to Khare, from which there are great views of the northern face of Mera Peak, an experience not to be forgotten, as well as some leisure time to visit Khare.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge/ camp.
Since we are already at an altitude of 5,045 meters, we use the day for acclimatization prior to the Mera Peak climb. There will also be an introduction to the basic skills of mountaineering, where the proper use of mountaineering gear such as the ice axe, harness, mountaineering boots, and crampons will be shown by the Sherpa guides.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge/ camp.
Following a steep trail, we reach Mera Peak Base Camp. Moving further along the trail, we cross the Mera La Pass, reaching today’s destination, i.e., Mera High Camp. The trail takes us along a tough rocky track, along which there are many cracks on the way. The trail takes us to the top of the rock band, where there is a huge cairn, where we set our high camp as we enjoy the view of Mount Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang, and Baruntse.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in a tented camp.
Today is one of the most significant days of our expedition as we are climbing to the summit of Mera Peak. Waking up around 2 a.m., we continue on our way to the summit despite the cold and darkness. As we continue climbing up into the glaciers and along the ridges, we are greeted by the rising sun shining down on us with a beautiful red hue as it rises over the towering mountain peaks.
The slope becomes more inclined after this ridge, and the peak becomes visible. At the beginning of this inclined section, a fixed rope can be employed for climbing if necessary, depending on the climber. Just a few more meters to go, and after some climbing effort, we are finally on top. At this amazing spot, we can enjoy the stunning views of the mighty Himalayas mountain range, which includes Everest (8,848 m), Cho Oyu (8,210 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,463 m), Kangchenjunga (8,586 m), Nuptse (7,855 m), Chamlang (7,319 m), Baruntse (7,129 m), and many more.
After enjoying the wonderful views, we head back to High Camp to rest before moving on to descend to Khare.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in a tented camp.
Note: This extra day serves as a backup, as favorable weather for the summit cannot be guaranteed. If conditions are not suitable on the planned day, the summit climb may need to be postponed.
After achieving our objective, we begin our return trek, following the same trail from Khare back to Kothe.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge/camp.
We start our journey to Thuli Kharka, walking up and down several times, crossing many tributaries of Inkhu Khola, and finally reaching a forked trail near Taktho. After walking some distance, we cross a Chorten, then continue walking downhill on a steep trail. Later, we start climbing to Thuli Kharka, passing another Chorten.
Includes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking trekking guide, Porter, and overnight stay in an available local lodge.
Today, we have to cross the Zatrwa-La Pass, which is at 4,600 meters. As soon as we cross the pass, we get to enjoy the stunning view of the Lukla Valley, which is surrounded by various Himalayan peaks, including Cho Oyu, Kongde Peak, Numbur Himal, and Kusum Khangru. From Zatrwa-La Pass to Lukla Valley, we go straight to Chutang and then continue to Lukla Village.
