Island Peak Climbing provides an adventurous experience in one of the finest climbing destinations in the legendary Everest area in Nepal. Island Peak, also referred to as Imja Tse (6,189m), emerges steeply out of a valley called Chhukung, resembling an island in a sea of ice, hence its name.

This 4-day climbing experience is ideal for either novice mountaineers or seasoned adventurers looking for a challenge in the Himalayas. This climb offers a great introduction to peak climbing in Nepal, including basic techniques like ropes, glaciers, and ice climbing.

From the summit, adventurers get a chance to enjoy mesmerizing views of the magnificent Himalayan mountains, which include Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,485m), Baruntse (7,129m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), and others. On the way, you will pass through the Everest trekking route, which provides a golden opportunity to experience the culture of the indigenous Sherpa community, visit picturesque villages in the mountains, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Sagarmatha National Park.

Travel Insurance

Nepal has a lot to offer with its incredible natural beauty, rich culture, and warm hospitality. Travelling can also come with risks, which is why anyone visiting Nepal needs to consider purchasing travel insurance, particularly those involved in adventure activities or trekking, as well as those who will be travelling to remote areas of Nepal. A well-rounded insurance policy can provide peace of mind through protection against the following:

  • Emergency medical care
  • Trip cancellations/delays
  • Lost or damaged baggage
  • Altitude sickness from high elevations
  • Emergency rescue/evacuation by helicopter

Many trekking routes in Nepal are over 3000 meters (9842 ft); therefore, your policy should specifically state that high altitude travel is part of your Insurance plan, as well as the option to be evacuated in the event of an emergency. Choosing the right policy will help you receive the best possible care in your time of need.

If you don’t want to travel with your own equipment, there are plenty of places in Nepal where you can rent or purchase what you need (particularly in Thamel, Kathmandu’s main shopping district). There are also locations within the city where you can find stores that offer a variety of high-quality trekking apparel and equipment at very reasonable prices.
