The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek provides a true experience in terms of nature and culture. During this thrilling trek, you get to see forests, meadows, and villages, along with scenery that contains breathtaking peaks such as Kanchenjunga, Jannu, and Kabru. During this trek, you also get to interact with people who are mainly Sherpas, Limbu, and Rai.
The accommodations provided along the route are simple yet comfortable, offering a snug abode after a long day of trekking. The trek is quite challenging, with steeper routes and rocky conditions, yet getting to the base camp offers a spectacular view up close and personal with the towering mountains.
Through the rugged terrain, the following will be visible: Impeyan pheasant, red-billed blue magpies, shy dragons, and the elusive snow leopard, all provided protection by the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. Along the way, the North and South Base Camp routes will be taken, providing panoramic views of peaks like Tent Peak and Nepal Peak.
The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, and one then has to travel to Taplejung in a bus. After a picturesque journey through villages, the route leads to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp and Oktang Temple before returning to Kathmandu via Suketar.
Welcome! To Kathmandu, Nepal. You will be welcomed by an Asian Heritage Travel representative with a nameplate upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, and you will then be taken to your hotel located within the busy tourist district known as Thamel in Kathmandu. You will see some of the highlights of the city while traveling to the hotel, including Pashupatinath Temple, Narayanhiti Royal Palace Museum, and the peaceful Garden of Dreams. Once you arrive at your hotel, a representative will meet you to discuss your itinerary and answer any questions you might have about it. After you check into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to explore the busy streets, cafés, and shops of Thamel or relax at your hotel.

Today is a free day before the long journey to Kanchenjunga Base Camp. We will pick you up from your hotel with your passport and photocopies of your passport photos for permit purposes. In the evening, we will take you to our office to introduce you to your trekking guide. If you need any equipment for your Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, your guide will be able to help you purchase or rent the necessary equipment.

After breakfast, our representative will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Kathmandu Domestic Airport. It takes around 50 minutes to reach Bhadrapur from Kathmandu by plane. Upon arrival, you can then reach Taplejung via private transport, which takes around 6 to 7 hours, including lunch and a break. After reaching Taplejung, you can rest in the hotel for the night.

Today, your trail from Taplejung descends towards Chhirwa, passing through pastures, farmland, and small villages. While the majority of the path is downhill, it’s considered a challenging day of trekking, so your guide will schedule stops throughout. You will have lunch along the way. Take in the sights of the Hungdewa River and the roaring Tamur River. With some gentle uphill walking, you will descend to Sinwa Village.
From Sinwa, the trek continues towards Tawa, across the suspension bridge at Thiwa. On the way, enjoy the unfolding natural views. Eventually, you will come to today’s destination, Chhirwa, a small Limbu village that has basic local lodges. Check into your lodge and rest well, as today’s hike might be tiring.

You will start your trek through several forested ridges covered with green vegetation. Today, the trail follows along with the Tamur River until you reach Olangchung Gola, the gateway to Kanchenjunga National Park. From here, you will ascend briefly and then descend again to cross the Ghunsa Khola. After a pleasant half-hour walk, you will finally reach Sekathum, where you will stay overnight.

After breakfast, follow a steep and narrow trail along the northern bank of the Ghunsa Khola to reach the Tibetan village of Amjilossa.

You are going towards Gyabla on a leisurely walk, followed by crossing the river, proceeding on a steep and narrow path. Then, you need to descend to cross the river once again, followed by ascending slowly from the bottom of the gorge, proceeding through Solima, and then descending slowly towards the river. Please be careful while ascending the gorge path as it is steep and narrow.
As you ascend after this, you will leave the riverside and enter dense bamboo, fir, and rhododendron forests. First, you will pass a small stone house located near the river, then steadily climb over several small bridges. The route involves many steep ascents and descents, and after this, a magnificent large waterfall will appear before the final steep climb to the small Tibetan settlement of Gyabla.

As you begin your trek towards Ghunsa, you need to descend towards the riverside and walk along a gradual track. After some time, you will see an opening in the valley as you arrive at a place called Phole. After some hours of trekking, you will finally arrive at the well-known Sherpa village, where you can see a local hydroelectric plant. Today, you will spend the night at Ghunsa with the objective of acclimatization.

Today is the rest day of your Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek and an important day for acclimatization. On this day, you can take a short trek to the Buddhist monastery and the surroundings. You may also take a trek towards Lapsan La through lush green forests and then return to Ghunsa for rest.

Your journey towards Khambachen begins as you go north along the river. After a gradual walk along the river, you start climbing through highland trees. You need to cross a bridge at Rampuk Kharka, followed by trekking through a waterfall. Then you are expected to pass through a narrow landslide area, where you are treated to a beautiful view of Mount Jannu. After trekking for some time, you arrive at Khambachen, check into your lodge, relax, and treat yourselves to some leisure time.

You will trek towards Lhonak today. The terrain will feature rocky fields along the way, where enormous boulders can be found along the hills. As you trek along the riverbank, you will soon find another wonderful sight, another magnificent waterfall. You will trek through the waterfall region by crossing the bridge to reach Ramtang. The upcoming trek will be very steep and narrow due to landslide issues; thus, care should be taken while crossing this zone of the trek, and you will be reaching Lhonak.

Begin your trek towards Kanchenjunga Base Camp, which will be the highest point in your trek. The base camp height is 5,140 meters. You will be taking a trek along the edge of the glaciers to reach the base camp. The trek is mostly gradual through grasslands, but be careful as the path is very narrow and steep, and some landslides can also be expected.
After a steady trek, you will reach the base camp, which is surrounded by breathtaking snow-capped mountains. At the base camp, you will be treated to panoramic views of Mount Kanchenjunga, Nepal Peak, Dromo Peak, and Kirat Chuli. After enjoying the sights and aura of the base camp, you will begin your trek back to Lhonak.

Retrace your steps and your memories as you make your way back to Ghunsa. Today’s trek is mostly a downward trek with some occasional ups and downs. After about five hours of trekking, you will be in Ghunsa. You can check in your lodge and take some rest. After dinner in the evening, you can explore the nearby villages and the unique culture of the place.

Today’s trail will be quite steep as it gradually ascends from Ghunsa to Selele through moss, rhododendron, and juniper forests. If you are lucky, you will see Nepal’s national bird, the Danfe, an impressive pheasant inhabiting the jungle. You will stop for lunch en route. You will reach Selele after a constant trek, check into the respective lodge, and rest well.

Today’s trekking will be a difficult one since you have to cross three high passes. Walk slowly and take a lot of water to stay hydrated for a successful journey. Ascend to the top of the hill, and when you reach the top, enjoy the view of Mount Jannu.
As you descend from the summit, you shall gradually pass through Sinion La Pass (4,440m), Mirgin La Pass (4,480m), and Sinelapche La Pass (4,645m). While passing through these passes, you shall be encircled by the scenic Himalayas to your east. Once you successfully pass the passes, you shall descend steeply and finally reach Tseram. Once you arrive in Tserm, check into your lodge and get well rested because you are sure to be exhausted from your hike today.

You will leave Tseram and then head toward Ramche. The trail is short and quite pleasant to walk today to Ramche. You will get the magnificent views while you are ascending south of the Yalung Glaciers. Frozen lakes, streams, and crystalline formations can be observed during the trek. Finally, reach Ramche and check in at your lodge to rest. Later, you can roam around the area.

You will start your trek towards Oktang Temple. On the way, you will see awesome views of Mount Kabru, Yalung Kang, Kanchenjunga, and Kumbakarna. Climbers’ Base Camp on the north side of Kanchenjunga is at the end of a full-day glacier trek, so Oktang is an achievable high point without climbing gear. Take a little time to explore around the temple area and enjoy the stunning views. Later, you will return to Ramche.

After breakfast, you will be trekking back to Tseram. It should take around six hours. During the course of your trek, you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. At this stage, you can be sure that you are having one of the most thrilling moments during your Kanchenjunga Trek. After you arrive in Tseram, you should check into your lodge and take some rest.

Today, we’ll go on a leisurely trek down the trail that winds its way through thick rhododendron and pine forests. Along the way, you’ll have ample opportunity to thoroughly immerse your senses in the pine fragrance of natural herbs in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area as we make our way trekking through the jungle. It drops down very steeply through rhododendron forest to Torontan, then up through a mossy forest to reach Lamite Bhanjyang, which will be tonight’s lodging.

Start your day with a steep descent to Imja Khola and traverse over the Dubi Pass. Hiking on the rugged ridge and enjoying the beautiful views will help you almost forget the hardships of reaching Dhupi Bhanjyang, which lies at an altitude of 2,540 meters.
The next day, we will trek through dense forest, and after a few hours, we will arrive at the Imja Khola River. After that, we will reach Yamphudin. This place is a bustling town that accommodates different ethnic groups, including the Limbu, Gurung, Sherpa, and Rai. You will witness the harmony of cross-cultural ties in the smiles of the inhabitants. We will spend the night here.

Begin your day by following the trail that descends steeply down to the Kabeli Khola River, crossing a long suspension bridge before reaching the village of Mamanke. Afterwards, we will ascend steeply to Phumpe Village for an overnight stay.

Today, we will start our trek from Phumpe Danda to Kande Bhanjyang. On the way, most of the trek is uphill. The trail passes through Phungphung Danda to Keshuwa and then finally to Kande Bhanjyang. After reaching Kande Bhanjyang, we will spend our spare time learning the culture, traditions, and way of living of the local Limbu people. Today’s trek also offers stunning panoramic views of Kanchenjunga and Kumbhakarna.

You will be heading toward Suketar, which is the final destination of your trek. The trail today descends through lush green forest, where you can observe the various flora and fauna, along with the chirping of birds melodiously. After a gentle walk, you will reach a saddle from where the trail keeps continuing further down toward Suketar. Upon arrival, lunch will be served, and then drive to Bhadrapur.

After breakfast, you will take a flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu Airport, our office representative will assist you and transfer you to our Asian Heritage office to share your trekking experience with our team. After that, you will be transferred to the hotel.
